An original perspective. Look forward to seeing more of your work. Something that connects perhaps with this. Research shows that muslim men who have succumbed to ISIS propaganda tend to be religiously illiterate, and conversely that knowledge of Islam actually safeguards them. I thought that was only because true knowledge of Islam helps them to recognise BS and lies. Perhaps it is also because spirituality gives something more to men — a strength, resolve, structure, discipline, source of emotional resilience, and understanding of their mortality and infallibility.

Spirituality doesn't automatically mean having empathy.

Historically, spirituality has often been recruited into hierarchy, organised religion, war, obedience, purity culture, and abstraction from ordinary human suffering.

Why not simply educate people to observe life properly?

Learn to witness properly: birth, death, caregiving exhaustion. Consequence.

A person deeply educated in human vulnerability may not need metaphysics in order to develop compassion.

Maybe what protects societies is not spirituality.

Maybe it is sustained exposure to reality.
